MY EXPERIENCE TREATING ALCOHOL USE DISORDERS

I began working with alcohol and substance use disorders in 2002 at an outpatient treatment program at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan for six years. Subsequently, I worked for seven years as a lead clinician in federally-funded research studies through Columbia University Medical Center in Manhattan and Northwell Health on Long Island. Studies investigated the effectiveness of brief behavioral and motivational  interventions for problem drinking.

I have worked with a wide variety of people at different stages of problem drinking and alcohol use disorder, from “over-doing it” on the weekends to experiencing serious health, family, social, employment, and legal problems. I have provided treatment based on a range of goals, from reduced, moderated drinking to harm reduction, to abstinence and relapse prevention.
